SCI Horse Preservation Project

El Campeon Farms is dedicated to preserving the breed and history of the Santa Cruz Island Horse. We have joined forces with UC Davis equine scientists, geneticists and reproduction specialists, and have developed a breeding program that has resulted in the successful expansion of the breed numbers. In addition to increasing the population of the breed, El Campeon Farms has prioritized finding their purpose and niche in the equestrian world. Herd members enrolled in our training programs have excelled Working Equitation, Dressage, Driving, and more! Our preservation efforts include three different goals: research, reproduction, and exposure. Follow the links below to learn more about each part of the program. Research

Our program works closely with equine scientists and geneticists to study the unique characteristics of this breed and what steps need to be made in order for them to not just survive, but to thrive. Check out publications about the SCI horses here.
